It took me quite some time to work out how to configure the SFTP connection directly from Publii to my hosted server. Basically I just had incorrect credentials, but you wouldn’t know that based on the error messages I received. FTP seems like a dark art to me. However, I can now publish directly from Publii which is a huge win for me :)

In other news I have decided that this website will be an AI free zone. There are two published blogs where I have used AI to clean up the writing. These are posts about my professional experience, basically small case studies about my work that I imported from a previous portfolio website. I’ve added a note and a tag to these posts to clarify that I used AI assistance to write the post. But apart from these, everything will be 100% pure me.

Finally, I would like to work on and launch V2 of the website in December/January. I still think Known is the preferred blog platform/CMS to go with. Even though Ghost has become a very popular option now that they are adding full fediverse interoperability I don’t think I’m ready for an enterprise grade solution for my little site.

The road to V2 will be something like this:

  1. Install Known on hosted server
  2. Test page and post templates
  3. Test importing content from Publii and Micro.blog
  4. Test indiweb and fediverse interoperability
  5. Research if I can build in dev and then move to prod (my preference so site content is never down)
  6. Select template (potentially with some customisation)
  7. Migrate content
  8. Publish

Something I need to confirm is the best approach for URLs for blog posts. Currently these come straight off the domain ie. joesilver.net/title-of-post, but in the back end this is going to lead to a very messy root folder. There must be optimal solutions out there, so it’s just something I need to research and undertand.
