Last summer I grew veggies

I started this year as a vegetable farmer in the Blue Mountains. At the time, it seemed such a huge departure from life as usual. I thought the change was leaving the comfort of the office and my suburban apartment. But oh how naive I was. The year to come would be full of new adventures.
Growing vegetables is humbling. It's physically hard work and you don't stop because it's hot or raining. I lived in a small hot blue shed. I was usually covered in compost. I ate the best veges you'll ever find. I learned to drive a tractor.
Sadly the farm where I interned did not survive 2023. Growing food organically and ethically in Australia is extremely difficult. Farmers in general are treated extremely poorly by our dominant grocery store brands, and farmers trying to provide fresh, nutritious, local food cannot thrive. But thankfully the beautiful farming family I can now call friends are finding new beginnings as they leave the farm.
I'm also looking for something new to begin next year. I want to bring together the different strands of my life - community, food, farming and communications. I'd love to hear from you if you think I could help your business or project. Or maybe you've heard of a great project or team I could reach out to. I'm ready to start ASAP in January.
