Website isn’t live yet but wanted to jot down a few notes on where it is at and where it’s hopefully going.

Currently

Using Publii to generate a static site. The site generator can be installed and run on my laptop with the preview generating all the files needed to see the site.

The default theme and all the free themes are blog focused and I’m hugely limited by my non-existent coding skills in how I can customise the look and feel.

I’m aiming to ship V1.0 of the site using Publii. The MVP is the main blog and a handful of static pages (About, Resume). I won’t implement the Notebook component just yet.

Also I selected joesilver.net as my domain.

Future plans

The main limitation with Publii is a lack of indieweb and fediverse support baked in. I might be able to incorporate this with plugins, but it seems like the developers involved are mostly focused on the largest platforms and integrations. That makes sense, but long-term Publii won’t match the principals and aims of building my personal site. I’m look at Known to handle the blog. This will have a steeper learning cure to implement, so I’m focused on Publii for V1.0 so that I can start using the domain.

Also, as I conceive of Notebook element, the implementation of posts and pages in Publii doesn’t give me the look and feel I desire which is inspired by Shellsharks site. Long-term I think this will be best managed by a wiki-like application perhaps at the subdomain notebook.joesilver.net.
